Diving is a very popular activity in the Canaries. You'll see a fantastic variety of marine life on the this side of the Atlantic and there are many diving schools to choose from.
In total, there are more than 300 types of fishing living in these waters! (five of which are native), along with over 1,000 types of invertebrates and around 600 types of algae.
Over the years, the Canary Islands have developed into one of the most popular diving locations in Europe.
Diving here is a completely unique experience; it's not like anywhere else on earth. Looking down through crystal clear waters at spectacular volcanic sea beds, full of life is something you won't forget.
The underwater landscape of the Canaries are very special. You'll see some spectacular volcanic walls, massive cliffs and some enormous fish.
La Palma is known for its huge submarine canyons, Gran Canaria has some spectacular rock walls full of sessile life. Off Tenerife and La Gomera you'll see formidable grouper fish and if you go diving in El Hierro you'll see some very peculiar tropical fauna. El Hierro is also the place to go to for deep diving.
Two marine reserves that have top class diving sites include: Scuba Diving Mar de Las Calmas (El Hierro) and El Roque del Este (Lanzarote).
